  • We get asked that question regularly. And honestly, we understand why.

    After all, the bouillon is not a restaurant concept we invented ourselves. It is a style of restaurant that emerged in Paris in the mid-19th century. The idea was as simple as it was revolutionary: good, honest food at a price affordable for almost everyone. Not luxury for luxury’s sake, but quality, speed, and hospitality for a broad audience.

    When we were asked to breathe new life into the restaurant at the historic Die Port van Cleve, all the pieces fell into place. Over 150 years ago, this very building was a place where Amsterdammers and visitors alike gathered for affordable dishes, long rows of tables, a lively atmosphere, and even queues stretching out the door. The philosophy of the Parisian bouillons turned out to align surprisingly well with the history of this remarkable location.

    If you're looking for a place to linger over dinner for hours with a long evening ahead, a traditional restaurant is probably a better fit for your expectations.

  • At Bouillon d'Amsterdam, you're here first and foremost to enjoy great food, rather than spend an entire evening at the table. That's why our kitchen and service keep things moving. Dishes are served promptly and, once you've finished your meal, we're happy to prepare the table for our next guests.

    We don't do this to rush people out, quite the opposite.

    By using each table several times a day, we're able to welcome many more guests. That's one of the main reasons we can maintain high quality while keeping our prices accessible. This pace isn't a limitation of our hospitality; it's part of it. It helps keep the table of the city open and accessible to as many people as possible.

  • Yes, you’re always welcome to walk in without a reservation. Due to high demand, we can’t guarantee a table right away, but you’re more than welcome to try.

  • Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the restaurant.

  • Our kitchen is open until 10:00 PM.

  • No deposit is required for standard reservations.

  • If you book online and enter your email address correctly, you will automatically receive a confirmation email. If you don’t see it right away, please check your spam folder.

  • Bouillon d’Amsterdam serves French comfort food with an Amsterdam twist — familiar, honest, and above all, really good.

  • Yes. On the corner of Molsteeg you’ll find the entrance to Bouillon Service — the spot for good coffee, fresh croissants, and filled baguettes. Open from 9:00 AM.

  • We serve lunch from 11:30 PM, with an all-day menu.

  • Our menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free options.

  • We do not offer a separate children’s menu.

  • It is not permitted to bring your own food or beverages.

  • We are open from 11:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

  • Bouillon d’Amsterdam is located in the centre of Amsterdam, on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.

  • Yes! We offer digital gift vouchers through the reservation portal on our website.

    Please note that gift vouchers are location-specific:

    • Bouillon d’Amsterdam – gift vouchers purchased for Bouillon d’Amsterdam are only valid at our location on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.

    • Le Petit Bouillon d’Amsterdam – gift vouchers for Le Petit Bouillon d’Amsterdam can be purchased through the Le Petit website and are only valid at Le Petit Bouillon d’Amsterdam.

  • No, we do not have a separate space for private events.

  • At Bouillon Service, you can order coffee, croissants, and filled baguettes to go during the day.
    The restaurant itself does not offer takeaway.

  • You can easily cancel your reservation via the confirmation email you received. Of course, we hope to welcome you another time.

  • Our dishes are not halal, however we have enough vegetarian and fish options on the menu.
